Discover the mesmerizing art of Inlay Clay, where vibrant colors and intricate patterns are embedded directly into your ceramic creations! This unique 3-week class teaches you a fascinating technique to create stunning, multi-colored clay slabs that become the foundation of your pottery.

You’ll explore this truly distinctive method (often known as Nerikomi or Agateware), learning to:

  • Color Your Clay Palette: Prepare and tint various batches of clay with pigments to create a spectrum of hues.
  • Design Your Pattern: Learn strategies for meticulously laying out individual pieces of your colored clays to form intentional patterns, from geometric designs to abstract swirls.
  • Fuse Your Slab: Master the technique of gently pressing and consolidating these arranged colored clays into a cohesive, patterned slab, where the design runs through the clay itself.
  • Construct Your Form: Use your custom-designed clay slab to hand-build functional pieces like mugs, plates, or decorative vessels, showcasing your embedded patterns.
  • Finishing Touches: Understand how to refine your patterned pieces and prepare them for firing, and how transparent glazes can beautifully enhance your designs.

This inlay clay technique allows for incredible artistic expression, resulting in truly unique ceramics where the design is an integral part of the clay itself. Join us to create beautiful, colorful pottery that truly stands out!
