Looking for a hands-on pottery class in the Kansas City area?

The Hand Building: All Levels class at House of Clay is a welcoming, creative pottery experience held at our studio in Overland Park. This class is designed for students of all skill levels — from beginners trying clay for the first time to experienced makers looking to refine their techniques.

Using hand-building methods such as pinch, coil, and slab construction, students will explore form, texture, and surface design in a relaxed, supportive environment.

Why Learn Hand Building at House of Clay?

Hand building gives you the freedom to create pottery without a wheel. At House of Clay, you’ll have the time, tools, and support to explore different techniques, develop your creativity, and create functional and decorative pieces you’ll be proud to take home.

Practice Between Classes

Every six-week class includes 18 hours of additional studio time, giving you the opportunity to continue building, decorating, and refining your projects between classes.

Finish Your Projects

Creative ideas don’t always fit into a six-week schedule. Your studio access continues beyond the end of class, giving you extra time to complete and perfect your work without feeling rushed.

Explore Color and Surface Design

Experiment with our extensive collection of brush-on glazes and underglazes as you explore texture, carving, stamping, and decorative techniques. Finish your work with colors and surfaces that reflect your own style.

Create in an Adults-Only Studio

Our studio is designed for adults 18 and older, creating a relaxed, welcoming environment where you can focus on learning, creating, and connecting with others who enjoy working with clay.
