Ever wanted to try the pottery wheel?

Our Pottery & Pinot: Wheel Throwing Experience is a fun, beginner-friendly introduction to wheel throwing. Bring your favorite beverage and spend the evening learning the fundamentals of the pottery wheel in a relaxed, social atmosphere. No experience is needed, and our small class size ensures you’ll receive plenty of one-on-one instruction.

Unlike our traditional Pottery & Pinot nights, where you’ll create a hand-built project to take home, this experience is all about learning the pottery wheel. You’ll throw multiple practice pieces throughout the evening, gaining confidence with each attempt as you discover the fundamentals of wheel throwing.

What You Will Learn

During this hands-on experience, you’ll be introduced to the basic techniques used to create pottery on the wheel. You’ll learn how to:

  • Prepare clay for throwing
  • Center clay on the wheel
  • Open the clay
  • Pull the walls
  • Shape simple bowls and cylinders
  • Remove your work from the wheel

Our instructor demonstrates each step before providing individual coaching as you practice.

What to Expect:

Unlike our traditional Pottery & Pinot nights, this experience is focused on learning the pottery wheel rather than creating a finished project.

You’ll throw several practice pieces throughout the evening, with each attempt helping you build confidence and improve your technique. Expect to laugh, get a little messy, and experience the excitement of creating pottery on the wheel.

Because the focus is on learning and practice, pieces made during the experience are recycled at the end of class.

  • Wear old clothes: Pottery can get messy!

  • Closed-toe shoes: For safety in the studio.
  • A positive attitude: Be ready to learn and have fun!

Learning the pottery wheel takes practice, and the first few pieces are part of the learning process. This experience is designed to let you experiment, improve with each attempt, and enjoy the process of throwing clay without the pressure of creating a finished piece.

Do I need any pottery experience?

No. This experience is designed for complete beginners. Our instructor will guide you through each step of the process, making it easy to try the pottery wheel for the first time.
