FAQ’s

How big are your pottery classes at House of Clay?

Our pottery classes in Overland Park typically include 8–12 students, allowing for personal instruction and plenty of time on the wheel. Smaller class sizes help beginners feel supported while giving intermediate potters room to grow.

What is the schedule for pottery classes and workshops?

We offer a wide range of pottery classes, one-time workshops, and multi-week courses throughout the week. You’ll find daytime, evening, and weekend sessions to fit your schedule. Seasonal classes—like holiday ornament workshops and summer clay camps—are added regularly. Visit our Classes page to see current offerings.

What is your kiln firing policy?

We provide free bisque firings for all members.

Glaze firings are priced at $0.05 per cubic inch, allowing you to fire small or large pieces affordably. We run firings as needed to keep projects moving. Our team can help you understand firing timing, temperature ranges, and clay compatibility.

What materials and supplies are included with studio access?

Memberships include access to studio glazes, tools, equipment, and workspaces.

We sell a variety of stoneware clay bodies suited for wheel throwing and hand-building. You may bring your own tools; however, outside clay or glaze must be approved to ensure it’s safe for our kilns. Everything you need to start—especially as a beginner potter—is available in the studio

How many pottery wheels does House of Clay have, and when is the studio busiest?

Our Overland Park pottery studio has 13 wheels, making it one of the more spacious community studios in the Kansas City metro. Evenings and weekends are our busiest times. Weekday mornings tend to be the quietest.

Can I sell my finished pottery at House of Clay?

Yes! Pottery Pro members can apply to display and sell their ceramic work in the House of Clay gallery. This is perfect for makers looking to grow a small business or share their pottery with the Overland Park and Kansas City community. Additional sales opportunities are available during studio events and pop-ups.

Does House of Clay host special pottery events?

Absolutely. We offer unique ceramic experiences such as Raku Day, seasonal workshops, holiday-themed classes (like ornament-making), and creative one-session classes for beginners. These special events are popular with families, couples, and hobbyists looking for a fun art activity in Overland Park, KS.
