Wheel Throwing: Beyond the Basics is designed for students who already have some experience on the pottery wheel and want to build confidence, improve technique, and create more refined forms. Hosted at our pottery studio in Overland Park and serving the Kansas City metro area, this class focuses on skill development in a relaxed, supportive environment

Whether you’ve taken a beginner wheel class or have prior experience with clay, this course helps you move beyond the basics and grow as a potter.

Taking the next step in pottery requires more than attending class once a week. At House of Clay, you’ll have the time, studio access, and supportive community to refine your techniques, experiment with new ideas, and create pottery you’ll be proud to use and display.

Practice Between Classes

Every six-week class includes 18 hours of additional studio time, giving you the opportunity to refine techniques and build consistency between classes. More time on the wheel means faster progress and greater confidence.

Finish Your Projects

Some projects take longer than six weeks to complete. Your studio access continues beyond the end of class, giving you extra time to finish, trim, glaze, and perfect your work without feeling rushed.

Explore Color and Surface Design

Experiment with our extensive collection of brush-on glazes and underglazes as you develop your own artistic style. Explore layering, decorative techniques, and color combinations to make every piece uniquely yours.

Learn Alongside a Community of Potters

Our adults-only studio is home to a welcoming community of more than 60 active members and students. You’ll learn alongside other potters who share ideas, encourage one another, and inspire your continued growth.
